RAAM 2016 did not go as planned. We DNF'ed in Arizona.  We had a great crew, some experienced, but mostly new. Ed and I had the experience as riders. He did RAW 2012 solo and we did RAW 2013 as a two person team. In 2014 Ed attempted to do RAAM solo but developed Schermer's neck and only got to Kansas at mile 1500. Our equipment for RAAM was great and our ride/sleep arrangements were sufficient, but our implementation hit numerous roadblocks.  That being said, I do not believe God brought me this far not to succeed. I have seen my short comings in doing this event and I know what has to be done different. Failure is not pleasant, but it is a teacher.  It is one thing to have an understanding of an undertaking, it is another to know how to implement and fulfill it.  To know there are no short cuts, and to not take any. I am not done. I don't know in what capacity I will continue in with RAAM, except to say that I plan to move forward with my training and preparation for what can be. Pray for me!

       Race Across America 2014

Ed Garrison and team solo attempt.

On Saturday afternoon, June 18, 2016, along the boardwalk in Ocean Side CA, Ed Garrison and I will start RAAM. Tentatively, this 3000 mile journey will be our last time as riders at this event. Even though we rather easily completed the 860 mile RAW, Race Across the West event in 2013, there is no guarantee with this. It is still a journey of 3000 miles in nine days with one of us always pedaling. It is also not mentioned nor acknowledged often enough about the commitment and sacrifice that all team and family members have made. Thanks to those involved can never repay or is it enough of an expression to satisfy the sacrifices spent so that two senior citizens can ride their bikes. With that said, I ask that those of you reading this, will take the time to pray for our journey. To pray for our team and families. To pray for the ability to see clearly the task set before us and to choose the correct path. I believe that this is a journey not just for Ed and I to satisfy a desire, but also to be a blessing for those involved as we open our hearts, minds, and souls to what we can glean from this and give to others. And as RAAM unfolds, please take the time to visit their website and follow our progress. Click on the logo on this page and open the Racers tab. All riders are issued GPS devices that provides live tracking. Thanks again for your support, Paul Hart.
